Ruck the Ridge 2023

Through local and national partnerships, Living Free Together (LFT) has been offering lifegiving emotional support and community to military families in the Charlottesville area since 2015. All veterans and their family members of all branches of service are welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun year-round. 

After the challenges of the last few years, LFT has realized that our veteran community needs a positive and healthy boost. To meet that need and to increase support of our local military and first responder families, we will host our second annual Ruck The Ridge event on Saturday November 11th 2023 at the Blue Ridge School in beautiful St. George, Va - 20 minutes from Charlottesville airport.

"Ruck hikes" are long, weighted hikes intended to challenge the participant mentally and physically. They are the military's way of adding some adventure to a nice walk through the woods!

Our event combines the best features of ruck hiking, trail running, and adventure/obstacle course races.  Our unique RuckFest adds activities for the whole family such as food trucks, music, bounce houses, a petting zoo, and more.   

The inaugural Ruck the Ridge event had over 100 participants who tackled two different Ruck courses, either as individuals or as teams.  We had dozens of families enjoy the RuckFest activities.  Check out a video of that event HERE.  In 2023 we are expanding the event to offer more course options and more RuckFest activities. The event again includes the RuckFest Expo, where our sponsors and fellow non-profits can share their mission and offerings with all participants and visitors.
